Meet our new Grants Officer

The GMET team has a new member: Becky! She is joining us as our new Grants Officer, so we asked a couple of questions to get to know her better...

1. Welcome to the team, Becky. What attracted you to the role of GMET Grants Officer?
 

Before joining the GMET, I spent three years working for a charity in Liverpool that funds local grassroot organisations and their community projects.

After moving to Manchester, I was keen to continue building on my previous experience and the GMET's work to improve the environment in Greater Manchester really resonated with me. I was further drawn to the role after reading about some of the great projects funded through the Green Spaces Fund and was excited at the prospect of getting involved with this.

As a Grants Officer, I look forward to getting to know the organisations that are working to make positive environmental change in Greater Manchester, and supporting them through the process of accessing the funding needed to transform local green spaces, improve biodiversity and bring their communities together.

2. What is your favourite green space?
 

My favourite green space at the moment is Reddish Vale Country Park in Stockport. It’s very easy for me to get to on the bus and such a lovely area to wander around.

The park is home to lots of beautiful wildlife, woodland and a small waterfall. There’s always lots of birds and I get excited going anywhere where there’s ducks to feed.

Feeling connected to nature can be difficult when you live in a city, so it’s amazing to have this green space nearby as somewhere peaceful to escape to for a little bit. I also love visiting the nearby farm, where you can go around feeding carrots to all the lovely animals or have a stroll along the nature trail where a very cute family of pigs live.

 

3. Tell us a surprising fact about yourself.
 

Over the last few years, I’ve rediscovered my love of reading and have set myself the challenge of reading 40 books in 2026. Whilst I enjoy getting out and spending time with friends at the weekends, during the week I mostly spend my evenings curled up with a good book. My favourite genre is fantasy, particularly anything with medieval vibes, political conflict and strong female characters. I also love a crime thriller with lots of twists and turns.

Another fact about myself is that I’m obsessed with the colour pink. Most of my possessions are pink, including my pink-themed kitchen and work from home station. I think it’s a happy colour and like to dye my hair pink, too.
