About the project
PROJECT TITLE: Chadwick Dam Cooking Forest Project
LOCATION: Tameside
FUNDING: Awarded £37,882 in Round Six of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund
DELIVERED BY: Silversprings Primary Academy
The idea
We will create a community food forest in the Chadwick Dam area, accessible via the new path, to transform underused green space into an edible, educational landscape.
The forest will feature fruit trees, berries, herbs, perennial vegetables, mushrooms, and pollinator-friendly plants. Community members will engage in foraging, cooking sessions, and workshops focused on nutritious, seasonal eating.
The project promotes biodiversity, food resilience, and outdoor learning.
In future phases, we plan to build a roofed outdoor kitchen at the nearby family hub and primary school, supporting year-round activities and stronger connections between people, food, and nature.
