About the project
PROJECT TITLE: MaCO Garden of Hope
LOCATION: Manchester
FUNDING: Awarded £29,598 in Round Six of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund
DELIVERED BY: Manchester Congolese Organisation
The idea
Our charity supports disadvantaged individuals, including Black African Francophone asylum seekers and refugees, by providing essential services at a community centre.
We aim to transform the underutilised green space around the centre into a thriving community garden that fosters social inclusion, mental wellbeing, and skill development.
This garden will serve as a safe, therapeutic space where refugees and local residents can grow fresh produce, learn gardening skills, promote biodiversity and build connections.
Activities will include communal planting workshops, wellbeing sessions, and cultural exchange events, helping to reduce isolation and promote integration, fresh food for vulnerable families, addressing food insecurity.
