Blanchard Gardens - Sustainable Communities Hulme

About the project

PROJECT TITLE: Blanchard Gardens

LOCATION: Manchester

FUNDING: Awarded £20,584 in Round Six of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund

DELIVERED BY: Sustainable Communities Hulme

The idea

Sustainable Communities Hulme is aiming to uplift a low-quality green space to a multi-functional biodiverse island in the St Mary’s Neighbourhood.

The existing space is a low biodiversity concrete triangle which hosts a few semi-mature trees, provides limited social benefit for the neighbourhood, and is often used for illegal parking.

The local community have redesigned this space to replace the concrete with soil and plants, add raised beds to prevent illegal car access, and add social structures like a bench and a mini library.

The new space will provide a boost to biodiversity, improved public amenity, and a meeting space.
