About the project
PROJECT TITLE: Biodiversity for Wellbeing in Rodney Fields
LOCATION: Manchester
FUNDING: Awarded £15,000 in Round Six of the Greater Manchester Green Spaces Fund
DELIVERED BY: Friends of Rodney Fields
The idea
Our park is underused and overgrown; this project will make it inviting and accessible, with fewer brambles and more trees.
We will commission a survey, then prune and plant accordingly to improve biodiversity. We will run a series of workshops on creating wildlife habitats, and sustain this with a programme of citizen science.
The focus is community engagement: getting people in nature to improve their wellbeing. Planned events include skill shares on foraging; arts & crafts to make signage; and tree maintenance to keep the fruits coming.
The site will retain some wilderness, but under community stewardship for social and ecological benefit.
